The objective of the Coxswain course is to equip the trainee with knowledge understanding and proficiency to work as a coxswain and command a commercial maritime vessel up to 24m in length with propulsion power that is unlimited for outboard or up to engine carrying passengers/cargo.

ABOUT
Kisumu Maritime Centre Limited is established as a training centre for maritime human affairs. The centre is registered as a limited company under the companies Act chapter 486 Laws of Kenya.
The centre is a maritime institute duly certified and accredited by both the Ministry of Education and Kenya Maritime Authority to offer maritime education and training (MET) to sealers for the international and local labour markets.
I awards certificate that meet the requirements of the merchant shipping (Training and certification under the international convention on standards of craining certification and watch keeping for sealers 1978(STCW 78)

COXSWAIN COURSE
The objective of the Coxswain course is to equip the trainee with knowledge understanding and proficiency to work as a coxswain and command a commercial maritime vessel up to 24m in length with propulsion power that is unlimited for outboard or up to engine carrying passengers/cargo.
Entry Requirements
There are no entry requirement for Coxswain course however, experience on and around boats would be an advantage and must be medically fit. The trainee should also have some basic education. To be eligible for the issue of a Certificate of Proficiency (COP)
Coxswain one must meet the requirements of KMA as contained in Kenya Maritime Authority Code and notification including satisfactory completion of approved programmes eye, sight and medical test.
Duration of the Course
The duration of the course will be six (6) weeks 180hours.

ASSESSMENT AND EXAMINATION
Candidates are required to pass examination administered by the centre in conjunction with Kenya Maritime Authority. Candidates are required to undertake final assessment conducted by the maritime administration approved examiners before being issued with a certificate of proficiency.
Award of Certificate
On successful completion of the Coxswain course the candidate will be awarded a certificate of Proficiency (COP) Coxswain

Applicants will be required to have passed KCPE or KCSE Examination and must have served on boardship in vessels not less 500gross tonnage (GRT). For a period of 12 months or more
